Domaine Claude Dugat, Gevrey Chambertin 2022

Dugat has been on a roll in recent vintages... their small portfolio has turned 180° from the slightly oaky wines of a decade ago to wines that exude finesse, elegance and transparency – paradigms of Pinoté.. grab whatever you can
Neal Martin
Neal rates Dugat's offering 91-93 points and praises its "wonderful composure", whilst Allen Meadows says it offers "Outstanding Top Value".

Claude Dugat's scores rank it above pricier versions from:
Rousseau (89-91 NM, 89-91 WK),
Dujac (87-89 NM, 88-90 WK),
Sylvain Cathiard (88-90 NM, 88-90 WK),
Duroché (89-91 NM, 89-91 WK)
and Fourrier (87-89 NM, 89-90 WK)

This is no fluke, Claude Dugat's Gevrey also achieved the top score in 2021 (91-93 NM), 2019 (92 WK) and 2018 (92 WK). In 2020 they only managed second place!

Despite its top ranking we are able to offer this 2022 at just £62 per bottle. As Neal himself has said of Claude Dugat's wines, we urge you to "grab whatever you can".

Recent years have seen a stylistic shift at Domaine Claude Dugat since Bertrand, Laetitia and Jeanne have taken over from their father. Picking is now earlier, the use of new oak more restrained and the wines are no longer chaptalised. The result is "pure, ethereal, perfumed wines of intensity and substance, more or less the platonic ideal of red Burgundy." (WK)

"The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a lively bouquet of brambly red fruit tinged with sous-bois and redcurrant pastilles. Quite delicate and nicely focused. The fresh palate is relatively spicy on the entry and very well balanced, with a little more intensity on the finish than expected. Yet, it retains wonderful composure. 2026-2036"
91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous.com

"Aromas of sweet cherries, berries, spices and licorice introduce the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, a medium to full-bodied, bright and fleshy wine with a lively core of fruit, sweet tannins and a youthfully chalky finish. This lands somewhere between the 2017 and 2019 in style. Bertrand Dugat and his siblings have exceeded themselves once again with the 2022 vintage...to deliver pure, ethereal, perfumed wines of intensity and substance, more or less the platonic ideal of red Burgundy."
90-91 points, William Kelley, Robertparker.com

"A slightly more deeply pitched nose blends notes of wild red and dark currant with suggestions of earth and the sauvage. The succulent and decidedly rich flavors retain excellent punch and evident minerality while delivering solid length on the compact, firm, dusty and youthfully austere finale. This offers fine development potential and is a wine that's going to need some patience."
Outstanding Top Value, 89-92 points Allen Meadows, burghound.com
