We’re excited to share some incredibly rare Grand Crus from the domaine that was founded by Leroy’s original winemaker.
André Porcheret was a well-known figure in Burgundy, the cellar manager at the Hospices de Beaune from 1976 to 1988 and again from 1994 to 1999. He was also hired by Lalou Bize-Leroy in 1988 to become the winemaker at her newly created Domaine Leroy, from 1988 to 1993 and led the drive to convert her vineyards to biodynamics. During his tenure he crafted some of Leroy's now legendary bottles that regularly command five figure prices.
In 1989 André inherited his own 300+ year old domaine from his adoptive parent, Amande Douhairet, renaming it Douhairet-Porcheret.
His granddaughter, Cataldina joined him in 2004 and now manages the domaine alongside her husband. Biodynamic principles are followed and winemaking practices can be described as 'modern traditional'. All their Grand Crus are densely-planted (10,000 per ha), fruit is 100% de-stemmed and new oak is minimal (30%).
André passed away in 2020 aged 83.
In the USA Douhairet-Porcheret share the same importer as Leroy, d’Auvenay, and Rayas - Not bad company to be keeping!
The selection below includes what may be the rarest versions of Chambertin and Charmes Chambertin, with only around 300 bottles produced each vintage.
These are so rare that it appears that the major critics have not reviewed them, although William Kelley has made some very positive comments about the domaine in general.

I've been visiting regularly for several years now, and I'm consistently impressed by the wines' progress: destemmed grapes, classical macerations and élevage with moderate percentages of new oak are the rudiments of what remains a fundamentally traditional approach, but under Cataldina's fastidious tenure, the wines have become purer and more elegant, improving year in, year out... For now, this estate and the talented vigneronne who directs it fly somewhat under the radar, but that's sure to change."

"Madamoiselle Armande Douhairet (1906-2004) was a legendary lady who retained her faculties to the end of her life - assisted by a glass of her own Monthelie at lunch and a mature vintage of Volnay in the evening. We used to meet in her library before going down to taste the wines. The library had no books dating from after 1800 - there was no room to add anything new, explaiined Madamoiselle."
