In 1977 Sergio Manetti, broke from Chianti Classico tradition by rejecting the mandatory inclusion of white grapes, choosing to focus solely on Sangiovese instead.
Guided by the legendary 'maestro del Sangiovese' Giulio Gambelli (who was also advising Gianfranco Soldera), Manetti crafted a wine that quickly became renowned for its refinement and its faithful reflection of Radda’s high-altitude terroir.
Today, under Martino Manetti, Sergio’s son, Le Pergole Torte remains true to its original philosophy. The wine now blends old-vine Sangiovese from the estate’s top three vineyards—Le Pergole Torte, Montevertine, and Il Sodaccio—enhancing both power and elegance. It continues to represent the pinnacle of Sangiovese. On average fewer than 2,500 cases are produced each vintage.
Year-upon-year the critics shower praise upon this iconic, ground-breaking Sangiovese that stands alongside Soldera, Masseto and Sassicaia as a true legend of Tuscan wine that “plays in the same league with the very finest wines in the world.” (AG)
